Massachusetts Notary Public Disclosure Statement

As a Notary Public in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I must inform you of the following:

  1. I am authorized to witness signatures, administer oaths and affirmations, and certify documents as true copies.

  2. I am not an attorney and cannot provide legal advice or prepare legal documents unless I also hold a license to practice law.

  3. I cannot explain or interpret the contents of any document you sign.

  4. I cannot determine which notarial act is appropriate for your situation.

  5. I must verify your identity through valid government-issued photo identification.

  6. You must appear before me in person at the time of notarization.

  7. I cannot notarize a document if you appear unwilling or if I suspect fraud.

  8. I cannot notarize a document in which I have a personal interest.

  9. I cannot notarize a document if you are not physically present.

  10. I charge fees in accordance with Massachusetts state law.

  11. I maintain a journal of all notarial acts I perform as required by law.

  12. All parties signing documents must be present, competent, and not under duress.

  13. I cannot certify copies of vital records such as birth certificates.

  14. I cannot assist with immigration matters beyond notarizing signatures on appropriate forms.

  15. My commission expires on September 4, 2031.
